Simpkin and James

How many of us, I wonder, remember Simpkin and James's 'delicatessen supreme' in the Market Place at Loughborough. There was not much in the way of luxury food and wines that you could not buy here. When did it close?

Don't know when it closed but I remember going in with my mum when I was young. I can still recall the great smell, the hams and sausages hanging up and how they weighed and packed the butter and flour - none of the pre packaged stuff there!

I can still smell S & J if I think about it - unique pong.

My dad and my partner's mum both worked there around the same time.
My dad was there from around the beginning of WW2 until the mid-late 50s.
