I think The Windmill next to the Parish Church claims to be the oldest pub in Loughborough. Still pretty much as it was years ago except for the very bright paint job. They must have taken inspiration from my sheds!!!

Default Loughborough Pubs

I am currently living in Lichfield and one of our citizens has published a book on the old pubs of Lichfield. It has sold very well and he also produced a concurrent slide show which is very much in demand locally.

Perhaps some enterprising person could do the same for Loughborough
Some old names I am familiar with are 'The Half Moon' (my father was born there) and 'The Bunch of Grapes' - the former pub was somewhere near The Coneries. Ale was brewed on the premises at 'The Britannia'.

If and when the book is published put me down for a copy.

Default Loughborough Pubs

I think The Windmill on Sparrow Hill is the oldest whilst much of it is C19 parts date back to C16. The Pack Horse is old black bricks at the rear show 178?
It is one of the pubs that the Luddites met prior to their attack of John Heathcoats Mill (1816). In latter years The Chartists also met there.
The Griffin C19 is also externally original.

Default Blue Boar - The Rushes

Certainly in the 1950's the landlord of the Blue Boar was Ralph Ward - he was a friend of my fathers. At the same time my uncle Fred Harris kept the Loughborough Hotel in Baxter Gate
