I was late setting seed this year, but I often end up with a load of cut green vines to ripen in my small greenhouse. If nothing goes wrong, these often taste superior to normally ripened toms!

I've just got potato blight with all the warm damp conditions.......hopefully it won't transfer to the toms!

I have in the past picked the green tomatoes at the end of the season, wrapped them in newspaper and put in the dark of the basement. Actually had some last until late November. You have to keep checking them though; if one gets a bad spot it can spoil the whole box. Canned some dilled green beans the other day with my regular ones. Hoping to get enough to do a few more jars. I have a window sill full of tomatoes right now I need to do something with...........if it doesn't warm up today they might find themselves in a pot of chili!!

My garden is winding down. Pulled some of the green bean plants along with some squash. Hoping to get out there this afternoon and pull out a few tomato plants that aren't doing anything anymore. My cantalope didn't do well at all--they are about the size of a softball! I still have 3 heads of cabbage to cut and not sure what to do with it.
Had alot of runners coming off the wisteria plant and cut them off. I sure wish the thing would blossom.

Put the garden to bed for the winter today. Got everything pulled and tilled it up. Sad to see it go but it and I both need a rest!!

Still got our final pototoes to dig up......next dry opportunity we'll do it! Very last tomatoes were used in meatballs with spaghetti last night. My aubergine never really took off but the hot cayenne chilli pepper is still covered in sprouting "fruits".

Do you apply any disinfectant or equivalent to cleanse the soil at season's end? We use diluted Jeyes Fluid.

I keep growing chillies, but they're never very hot...more like mini capsicums in taste. Is there a secret to growing hot chillies?

No, I don't apply anything. Just till it all under. I do have some compost that I will spread on top. Every few years a good dose of lime to sweeten the soil.
I have a window sill full of tomatoes yet, and some green ones that I wrapped in newspaper and put upstairs in a cold, unheated room. If all goes well with them I will get some out in mid-November to ripen for our Thanksgiving time.

What kind do you plant? I think they tend to be hotter if you are stingy with the water.
