Attempted Robbery at Loughborough Jewellers
Posted on 01/06/2007
P. Klein
Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery at a jewellers in Loughborough yesterday (Thursday May 31).
The incident happened at premises on Swan Street shortly before 5pm when two men, described as white and in their twenties, entered the store and demanded the staff hand over jewellery.
One of the men had what is believed to be a small firearm, similar in style to a handgun.
They assaulted a female member of staff before leaving the store, on foot, empty handed. The woman was treated by paramedics for minor injuries.
Police inquiries are ongoing, with officers speaking to witnesses and looking at CCTV evidence.
Detective Inspector Simon Hurst of Loughborough CID said: "Fortunately no-one was seriously injured during this incident and nothing was stolen but it was still obviously distressing for anyone inside the shop.
Weve been conducting a number of enquiries today but are still keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident.
"Although the men left the jewellers on foot we believe they had a green car waiting for them nearby on Shakespeare Street. Did you see the men getting into this vehicle, possibly a green Rover? Do you know the route it after it left Shakespeare Street?
"It happened at a time of day when a lot of people will have been leaving work. If you work around Swan Steet or were in the area yesterday teatime, please think back and see if you recall any unusual activity.
"Even small details may be crucial to the investigation and we urge anyone with any information to come forward."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 1294 Matt Berry on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 1294. Alternatively, people can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
