Arson at house in Loughborough
Posted on 01/06/2007
P. Klein
Officers in Loughborough are appealing for witnesses following an incident of arson at a house on Cobden Street in Loughborough.
The incident happened at around 1.15am this morning (Friday June 1, 2007) when a fire was started deliberately at the front of a terrace house. No-one was in the house at the time of the incident but the fire has caused considerable damage to the front of the property.
An area of Cobden Street has been cordoned off to allow for forensics and specialist officers from the Fire Service to investigate the exact cause of the blaze and detectives are conducting house to house enquiries locally.
Detective Inspector Simon Hurst from Loughborough CID said: "Fortunately no-one was home at the time of the incident otherwise this fire could have been a lot worse.
"Cobden Street is a typical narrow terraced street with houses running along both sides of the road so were obviously talking to people who live there in the hope they may have witnessed this incident.
"Were also keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the surrounding area in the early hours of this morning who may recall seeing any suspicious activity, people running to or from the scene or any vehicles that seemed out of the ordinary.
"If you have any information regarding this incident or have any information as to who may be responsible, then Id encourage you to get in touch."
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact DC 440 Stuart Frobisher from Loughborough CID on 0116 2222222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 0440. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
