bike lockCYCLISTS are being given an added incentive to get on their bikes by Charnwood Borough Council during a national celebration to promote pedal power.

The Authority is giving away a total of 10 cycle locks to people booking their places on two organised rides held during National Bike Week, which takes place from June 16th to 24th.

Available on a first-come first served basis, the locks " which are worth £20 " will be evenly shared between two different events aimed at beginners and intermediate riders.

A third, sponsored ride has also been arranged during Bike Week. Charnwood Borough Council is pleased to advertise this sponsored ride and hope that a lot of money is raised for the Parent/Staff Association.

Charnwood employees are also being encouraged to get into the spirit of things by leaving the car at home and cycling to work during National Bike Week.

Ian Matthews, Charnwood Borough Councils Physical Activity Development Officer, said: "This is an excellent chance for cyclists of all levels to get out and about and enjoy some of Charnwoods picturesque views while getting some exercise.

"Cycling is one of the most enjoyable and effective workouts and even a small amount of cycling can lead to significant health benefits.

"I would urge people thinking about taking part in any of the rides to book their place quickly to be in with a chance of receiving a free bike lock.
