Natalie Slote from De Lisle Catholic Science College in Loughborough has been shortlisted for the East Midlands 2007 Teaching Awards.
She is one of only 35 headteachers, teachers, teaching assistants, governors and schools taking part in the ceremony being held in Nottingham on 5th July.
Natalie is one of four finalists in the outstanding new teacher of the year category.
Winners will be invited to attend the Teaching Awards 2007 national ceremony in October at the London Palladium which is broadcast on BBC 2.
Ivan Ould, the County Councils Cabinet Member for the Children and Young Peoples Service, said: "I would like to congratulate Natalie and Jill on this wonderful achievement and wish them the best of luck.
"These awards should also be celebrated by parents and children as they recognise all teachers who are dedicated to improving the lives of children and young people. The hard work that takes place on a daily basis in Leicestershire schools is greatly appreciated.
"Teachers should be proud of their valuable contribution in improving standards in our schools.
