Hundreds of working prototype designs and stunning works of art will be on display at this years Loughborough University Design and Technology and Art and Design degree shows.
The shows are open to the public from Saturday 16 to Tuesday 19 June.
At the Industrial Design and Technology show, almost a hundred students, who are graduating from one of the top rated product design courses in the UK, will be exhibiting their final year projects, many of which have been developed in collaboration with industry.
Designs on display this year will include a childrens booster cushion with a height adjustment to fit the child as it grows; a stylish new high-heeled shoe design; and a sledge that simulates the movements of skiing.
Similarly, the School of Art and Design show will showcase the striking artwork produced during the students final year. Over 200 students will display their work from conception to completion, including paintings, sculptural works, photographic prints and 3-dimensional designs; exquisite printed textiles, developed for use by the fashion and interior design industries; and graphic designs and illustrations for magazines, packaging and promotional material.
Paul Wormald, a lecturer in the Department of Design and Technology, says the shows will provide businesses and members of the public with a fascinating insight into both design and the designers of the future. "Loughboroughs students are among the most creative and inventive in the country. Were looking forward to what promises, once again, to be a really exciting event, comments Paul.
Clive Edwards, director of LUSAD, adds: "Our annual degree show is always an engaging event. This year visitors have the opportunity to see work from an extremely wide range of creative practices, so if youre looking for a new person to employ, work to buy, or thinking about a future course to study, please come and visit.
Members of the public are welcome to come along to the degree shows. The Design and Technology show will be located in the Sir Denis Rooke building, in the Holywell Park area of the University campus. The majority of the LUSAD show will take place in the LUSAD building, off Epinal Way. Graphic Design and Illustration will be displayed in the departments building at 12 Frederick Street in the town centre.
The shows are open daily from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free and advance booking is not required
