ALMO Board in Place and Set for Tour
Date of Release: 14/06/07
CHARNWOOD Neighbourhood Housing (CNH), the Arms Length Management organisation, soon to be responsible for the management of the Boroughs Council homes, has appointed its official Board and is set to tour the Borough during the coming months.
The Board will lead CNH and make major decisions regarding the management of the 6000+ housing stock and the surrounding communities as well as the handling of the repairs and maintenance of the homes.
The Board is made up of volunteers comprising five tenants and leaseholders, five Council nominees and five independent people selected for their professional skills. The 15 individuals will be responsible for the investment of the £35million Government funding, once it is confirmed.
Ian Saville, Deputy Director of Housing for Charnwood Borough Council and the future Chief Executive of Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing " Charnwoods Arms Length Management Organisation, said: "The ALMO or CNH will deliver a far better quality of home and service for tenants in Charnwood.
"The money will be invested in improving services and carrying out much needed improvement of tenants homes including new kitchens and bathrooms, central heating, double glazing etc.
"All the key decisions will be taken by the Board working together for the benefit of all tenants.
This summer, a series of roadshows will be touring the Borough to explain how the ALMO will work and answer any questions from tenants.
For the ALMO to go ahead and to unlock the £35 million of extra funding needed to carry out the improvements , tenants have to give their support to the proposal to set up the ALMO called Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing.
The Roadshows will be held at the following places:
- Carillon Shopping Centre, Loughborouogh- 18th to 25th June
- Shepshed Carnival - 30th June
- Shelthorpe Summer Fete - 7th July
- Birstall Gala - 8th July
- Ashby Road Estate Event - 28th July
- Syston Carnival - 1st September
Ann Watkinson one of the tenant Board Members, said: "Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing is the only way I see us, as tenants, getting the extra money we need for better homes and a decent service. "The money, when we get it, will see a great deal of investment for Charnwood and will mean tenants will see real differences to our services and their homes " new bathrooms, windows and kitchens, are just some examples of the work the money will be spent on.
