A TOTAL of £513,000 will be invested in facilities for children and young people, across Charnwood, over the three years.
The money, which comes from Charnwood Borough Council and the Big Lottery Fund, together with monies included in Section 106 planning agreements, will go towards four keys areas of play development in Charnwood.
The areas the money will fund are:
- Mobile Play Project " Two Play Rangers will be funded for three years to work across the Borough to provide play opportunities for children and young people, aged between 0 and 16-years-old.
- A Multi-use Games Area for Elizabeth Park, Thurmaston will be developed working together with Thurmaston Parish Council.
- A Skate Park in Central Park, Syston, will be developed working together with Syston Town Council.
- A Destination Play Area will be introduced to Queens Park, Loughborough.
Cllr Hilary Fryer ( Conservative, Barrow & Sileby West), Cabinet Member for Planning and Development and Member Champion for Play, said: "All developments will be focused on delivering outcomes that will make a real difference to the lives of Charnwoods children and young people. We will be asking local residents around the areas what they want before we invest the money to ensure were delivering the best possible and most wanted facilities.
The Council, who will lead in the managing and implementation of the plan, is pumping £236,041 into the required monies, with the Big Lottery Fund putting in the remaining £276,959.
Cllr Jane Hunt (Conservative, Nanpantan), Children and Young Peoples Champion, said: "Play is vitally important to childrens development but more than that these facilities will provide local families and young people with a place to gather, a place where a real feeling of community can be built.
The next stage of the project will be to undertake consultation in the key areas to help firm up the detail of the projects and to ensure that what will be provided is what local children and young people want.
Consultation will be undertaken as part of the National Play Day Events that have been organised.
These are as follows:
