Mike Jones attends Birthday Party
Posted on 11/07/2007

Snibston celebrated its fifteenth birthday party last weekend with a huge free party that was attended by over 4,000 visitors. The festivities began with a cake cutting ceremony and speech by County Council Chairman Mike Jones (Labour, Loughborough East). Amongst invited guests were former Snibston staff and representatives from other regional attractions.
The public were greeted by various street entertainers including Junior Robot and a multi-tasking juggler. The activities on offer around the site ranged from rides on a fully working steam engine on loan from Staffordshires Foxfield Railway, T shirt printing workshops and bug hunts with the Country Park Rangers.
There was also support at the site from local groups like Stay and Play who put on a really popular Junk Modelling activity, and the Girl Guides whose wrist band activity attracted crowds throughout the weekend. The Leicestershire and Rutland Local History Group were delighted to have been able to track a visitors family tree back three generations. Coalville Camera Club also took the opportunity to announce the winner of their annual competition which was decided by a public vote.
Paul Love, Head of Commercial and Support Services at the County Council with responsibility for Snibston said:
"I was thrilled to see so many visitors at Snibston enjoying themselves. This weekend was all about celebrating the last fifteen years of the site, and it was lovely to see some familiar faces from Snibstons past again. It was also about launching the plans for Snibstons development and letting the public see what were hoping to do to make it even more successful in the future. We hope that lots of people who have visited today will come back in the future and see the changes that are planned.
