Loughborough MP raises issue of Super-casinos
Posted on 13/07/2007
P. Klein
During Prime Ministers questions, Loughborough MP Andy Reed, raised the issue of super-casinos with Mr Brown.
Andy Reed asked the Prime Minister to think again about super-casinos as he believed they would encourage social problems such as making gambling addiction worse.
Super-casinos had previously been thought that they would be of use in the regeneration of deprived areas, and Manchester had been recommended as the best location by the Casino Advisory Panel.
Mr Brown responded by saying: "It is true to say that this is an issue on which there is no consensus found within the two Houses of Parliament and it is an issue which is now the subject for reflection over the next few months."
"In September we will have a report that will look at gambling in our country, at the incidence and prevalence and the social effects of it."
