Meet The Wild card Dinosaur in Loughborough
Posted on 12/07/2007
P. Klein
THE new mascot of Charnwood Borough Councils Leisure Services team will be in Loughboroughs Market Place this weekend encouraging youngsters to get active this summer.
Staff from the Authority will be supporting the cuddly Wild Card dinosaur and providing parents with the perfect solution to keeping five to 16-year-olds entertained during the six-week break.
The Councils Summer Holiday Activity Programme, which is supported by Loughborough firm AstraZeneca, begins on Monday (July 16) and places on a variety of events are being booked up fast.
But there is still time to sign up to a variety of sports activities, leisure events and fantastic trips to Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United, Boardroom Skate Park and West Midlands Safari Park.
Leisure staff will be in the Market Place on Saturday (July 14) between 11am and 1pm handing out booklets and giving parents the chance to book their youngsters onto the programme.
Cllr Peter Lewis, Charnwood Borough Councils Cabinet member for Leisure, said: "I think youngsters in Charnwood are lucky to live in such an active place.
"Too often, there are lots of things for little ones and not enough for the older ones but the special thing about the Holiday Activity programmes is there is something for all ages.
"I would urge everyone to join and in and have a fantastic summer.
Zara Spencer, Charnwood Borough Councils Sport and Leisure Activity Co-ordinator, said: "We have pulled out all the stops to provide a Summer Activity Programme that has something for everyone.
"Places are being booked up fast and wed advise people to get in quick to avoid disappointment. Anyone who wants to find out more can come along and see us in Loughborough on Saturday " and meet our Wild Card mascot as well!
Sports covered in the programme include football, kwik cricket, golf, rugby, tennis, ice skating, horse riding, dancing, skiing, climbing, trampolining and lots more.
Wild Card holders can also make some fantastic savings on events in the Holiday Activity Programme.
If you cant make it to Loughborough on Saturday, copies of the Summer Holiday Activity Programme can be obtained from Loughborough Town Hall, by calling Charnwood Borough Councils Leisure Services Team on (01509) 634 673 or logging on to www.charnwood.gov.uk/leisure
