Detectives investigating a shooting at a music event in Loughborough have today (16th July 2007) charged a man in connection with the incident.
The 29-year-old man, Jermain Winston Carty, of Canary Grove, Birmingham, was arrested in the Huddersfield area on Sunday July 15 and was charged shortly before 7pm on Monday July 16 with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
He is due to appear at Melton Magistrates Court on Tuesday July 17.
The shooting took place at around 2.45am on Sunday March 11, 2007 at a concert being held in the Students Union at Loughborough University. The event, a live performance by US urban artists Pretty Ricky, was open to the public as well as university students. Immediately after the event the University and Students Union stopped holding open events.
The victim, a 21-year-old student at the university, who was employed by the Students Union as security staff at the event, received three gunshot wounds to his abdomen during the incident. He was treated at hospital and later discharged.
Six others were also injured during what was described as a scuffle that broke out after CS gas was sprayed following the event
