Shortlist for Council Services
Posted on 22/07/2007
P. Klein
A range of services at Charnwood Borough Council, in conjunction with Rushcliffe Borough Council will soon be provided by an external company. That company will either be Capita or Liberata.
Capita started in 1984 and now have 27,800 staff working across their network of business centres in the UK, Channel Islands, Ireland and India. Liberata has been running for over 30 years and now has 3,800 employees over 20 locations in the UK.
As part of a national commitment across Local Authorities to save money, the two Borough Councils; Charnwood Borough Council in Leicestershire and Rushcliffe Borough Council in Nottinghamshire, have chosen these two companies to compete in the final stages to provide certain services for all of the two Boroughs 270,000 residents. The services will include Human Resources, Benefits and Revenues and a range of other Services.
The two Councils and the two contractors now enter the final stage which consists of a series of assessments which will identify the best value for money, the most efficient and effective in terms of customer services and savings and the best deal for the Council staff that will transfer to work under the contractor. A final announcement is expected later this year.
Chief Executive of Charnwood, Brian Hayes, said: "In increasingly hard financial circumstances for local authorities we are continually examining opportunities to work with others to cut costs and not services.
"Charnwood strives to be open and innovative in all we do and this initiative will allow us to not only do this but make real savings, together with Rushcliffe Borough Council, who have the same values.
Chief Executive of Rushcliffe, Allen Graham, said: "Members recognise the importance of exploring opportunities to reduce costs whilst improving performance and the customer experience.
"Rushcliffe Borough Council wants to be an excellent council and believes that this opportunity of working with Charnwood Borough Council and the private sector would make this ambition a reality."
