loughborough hospital buses
Posted on 24/07/2007
P. Klein
Two new bus stops are making it easier for patients and visitors to get to Loughborough Hospital.
The new stops are on Epinal Way, close to the hospital entrance, and are served by the number 127 bus which goes to the town centre and through Birstall, Mountsorrel and Quorn on its way from Leicester.
Both include raised kerbs to help passengers, particularly elderly and disabled people, when using buses.
As well as new passenger shelters, they also have timetable boards and real time (Star Trak) information.
The new stops have been put in following concerns raised by bus users about access to the hospital.
There is an existing pelican crossing on Epinal Way outside the hospital which enables pedestrians and passengers using the bus to cross the road safely.
Nicholas Rushton, Deputy Leader of the County Council, with responsibility for Highways and Transportation, said: "The new bus stops will make getting to the hospital much easier for people travelling by public transport, particularly elderly or disabled people who may have trouble walking any distance.
"We want to make access to services better for people who dont have a car, or want to take the more environmentally option of leaving the car at home and taking the bus.
