Figures released today by East Midlands Airport (EMA) show that passenger numbers continued to grow in June. Increasing annual figures, year to date (January to June) rose by 18.4% (2,478,367) from the same time last year (2,093,245).

The Airport handled a total of 536,949 passengers in June 2007, an increase of 8.2% on June 2006 (496,105). This is the sixth consecutive month showing continued growth at East Midlands Airport despite the British weather.

For the second month running, Palma was the regions favourite European getaway destination with over 36,000 passengers alone travelling to the sunnier climate. This was closely followed by Dublin and Alicante.

There were increases in June in international scheduled travel sectors, with an overall increase in all travel sectors year to date. A breakdown of passenger figures for June 07 v June 06 is detailed below:

The Airport will be launching the new Caribbean route to Jamaica on Wednesday, 18 July with Penny Coates in attendance.

Penny Coates, Managing Director, East Midlands Airport said,

"I am pleased to see the overall continued growth of passengers flying from EMA, particularly those choosing to escape for some last minute sun to destinations such as Jamaica as well as the regions favourite destination " Palma.
