spruce up Loughborough
Posted on 26/07/2007

People will have the chance to flex their green-fingers and get involved in sprucing up Loughborough by choosing their favourite type of flowers and plants.
Over the next two weeks, the County Council will be planting sample flower beds along Epinal Way and asking residents for feedback.
The most popular design will then be re-produced on roundabouts and flower beds on main roads around Loughborough.
Residents can look at the different arrangements which will be on the Epinal Way/Alan Moss Road roundabout, the Epinal Way/Beacon Road roundabout and adjacent verges, from the middle of August.
People can then have a say on their favourite by emailing htwm@leics.gov.uk, by writing to the County Councils Highway Department at Granite Way, Mountsorrel, LE12 7TZ.
The flowers and new landscaping will be paid for out of the extra investment for verge maintenance agreed by the County Councils Cabinet today.
Last week, the County Council also launched two teams to combat the effects of the recent bad weather by cutting back foliage obscuring road signs and making verges look unsightly. Over 200 road signs have already been cleared and the grass cut on the A6 north of Leicester and many other key routes.
David Parsons, Leader of the County Council, said: "The County Council is committed to improving the local environment. This is a one-off investment in Loughborough where we are taking the lead by putting in new planting along the main roads - this is a great opportunity for local residents to get involved."
