children playing logoYOUNGSTERS are getting even more opportunities to play for free at fun organised sessions thanks to Charnwood Borough Council.

The Authority is once again backing National Playday, which takes place on Wednesday, 1st August.

But such was the success of the event last year, a total of five sessions spread over three days have been arranged by the Council as part of its popular Summer Holiday Activity Programme.

Two events will take place on National Playday next Wednesday (August 1) at Elizabeth Park, Thurmaston, between 9.30am and 12pm and Jubilee Park, Loughborough, between 2pm and 4.30pm.

The theme for Playday is Our Streets Too! and the campaign aims to highlight the need for childrens play to be a priority in street design and use.

Attractions at all the events include giant Jenga, tug of war, dance workshops, art workshops, a bouncy castle, fun for the toddlers and sport-related games.

Free play sessions for all the family will also take place at Systons Central Park and Loughboroughs Cumberland Road Playing Fields on Tuesday, 7th August.

And staff from Charnwoods Leisure Services Team will be in Loughboroughs Queens Park on Wednesday, 22nd August.

Cllr Hilary Fryer (Conservative, Barrow and Sileby West), Charnwood Borough Councils Champion for Play, said: "The Summer Holidays can always be a tough time for parents and families to entertain the kids.

"These Playdays will provide a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy themselves for free.

"Its good that Charnwood can be associated with something such as this and residents are getting more than they expect from their Council.

Charnwood has successfully completed the replacement of many play areas over the last two years " and at the Playday events in Jubilee Park, Cumberland Road and Queens Park, children and parents will have an opportunity to comment on a selection of new equipment for the parks.

Meanwhile, other activities that can still be booked during the remaining weeks of Charnwoods Summer Holiday Programme, sponsored by AstraZeneca, include a three-day girls football camp at the Soar Valley Leisure Centre, Star Track Athletics at Loughborough University and a trip to Rileys to play pool.

Wild Card holders can also make some fantastic savings on events in the Holiday Activity Programme.
