(girl studying with books at Loughborough University)Loughborough Universitys popularity continues to grow, according to the latest applications figures and a new league table published on the 30 July 2007. This is undoubtedly due to the high position in the UK University rankings that are published by national newspapers each year.

Loughborough University now is in higher position than Universities in either Leicester or Nottingham.

The applications statistics released by UCAS show an 11.2% increase in the number of students applying to study full-time undergraduate courses at Loughborough. The rise, which is more than double the national average of 5.3%, puts Loughborough towards the top of the applications table.

In The Good University Guide, the UKs newest league table, Loughborough is ranked in 11th position, reflecting its standing as one of the countrys leading higher education institutions (HEIs). Its ranking places it firmly among the UKs academic elite and ahead of all the other East Midlands universities.

These latest achievements follow on from the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) award for the UKs Best Student Experience, presented to Loughborough in 2006 " an indication of the Universitys popularity amongst students.

The high number of applications and continuing success in league tables can be attributed to the all-round quality of Loughboroughs offering to students, according to Ian Cairns, the Universitys Director of Marketing.

"Loughborough has strengths that really matter to students. It is consistently ranked as one of the top universities for teaching, and its extensive partnerships with employers provide students with unparalleled opportunities to gain employment-based experience, says Mr Cairns.

"Together with the Students Union, the University also provides a wealth of opportunities outside of the lecture room, as recognised in our award for the UKs best student experience.
