Drink drive campaign highlights a worrying trend

Another 15 motorists under the age of 25 have been caught drinking and driving in the second week of Leicestershire Constabularys summer drink and drug drive campaign.
It brings the total number of under-25s arrested for drink driving to 31, since the campaign was launched on July 30.
John Budulis, road safety officer for Leicestershire Constabulary, said: "This is a very worrying trend that is emerging. Out of 72 motorists caught drink driving in the first two weeks of the campaign, 31 are under the age of 25.
"We would like to say to this age group - and young men in particular - that if you dont think youll get caught, you are wrong. Thirty-one drivers arrested in just two weeks proves that.
"By getting behind the wheel after drinking you are not only risking your life and the lives of other road users, but you also risk a criminal record, a minimum 12-month driving ban and a possible fine of up to £5,000. On top of that a drink drive conviction could affect your job prospects and it will increase your insurance costs."
The summer drink and drug drive campaign will run until September 2. Officers will be stopping and breathalysing any motorist they believe may be driving under the influence or alcohol or drugs.
