European hot spot, Palma remains the regions favourite European getaway destination with over 37,000 passengers alone travelling to the sunnier climate. This was closely followed by Alicante (26,000) and Dublin (25,000).
There were increases in July in international scheduled travel sectors, with an overall increase in all travel sectors year to date. A breakdown of passenger figures for July 07 v July 06 is detailed below:
Domestic International Inclusive Total Scheduled Tour & Charter July 2006 62,285 246,764 205,167 514,216 July 2007 62,584 308,850 202,893 574,327 % Change 0.5% 25.2% -1.1% 11.7%Penny Coates, Managing Director, East Midlands Airport said,
"Coupled with the wet weather we have been experiencing as well as the school holidays, it is understandable to have seen passenger figures rise for the month of July. It is encouraging to see destinations closer to home such as Belfast and Edinburgh continuing to succeed as well as the favourite European routes such as Prague and Malaga.
