Loughborough library staff in Granby Street are getting ready for a week of criminal activity, as several events about crime writing are planned between September 18th and September 25th. Poets can also sharpen their quills, for a chance to win £100 in the Leicestershire Crime Poetry Competition…..
Kerry Featherstone, Literature Officer for Leicestershire, said "Crime writing is one of the most popular genres around today " from Sherlock Holmes to Rebus, everyone reads it. This is a tempting programme for readers and budding writers alike: it would be a crime to miss it!
First offender will be Sally Spedding who writes creepy stories, the kind of tales which wheedle their way back into your mind… Her novels include between horror, the supernatural and crime, and take place England, Wales and France. A fascinating insight into her writing and plotting. (Tuesday, September 18th, 7-8.30pm)
John Martin will be next before the jury, presenting "Lands End to John OGroats " an A-Z of crime locations in the UK. Come and be astounded at the places that have appeared in crime writing " and pick up a few recommendations from the man whos read more crime novels than youve had parking tickets! (Thursday, September 20th, 7-9pm)
Also on the charge sheet will be Joanne Reardon, who has just produced a series of crime fiction readings for BBC7. In this talk, shell be discussing her choice of stories, and how she found the right voices to read them. Turn up and tune in for an insight into the world of radio… (Sunday, September 23rd, 2-4pm)
Finally, Sophie Hannah will be talking about her new crime novel, Hurting Distance. Its her second in the genre, and is so full of suspense its painful! As well as writing other novels, Sophie is also a poet and childrens writer, so why did she turn to crime? Come and find out…. (Tuesday, September 25th, 7-9pm)
Kerry added "The events and the competition are going to be fun " and popular " judge for yourself!
All events free " no need for breaking and entering. Poetry competition free to enter. Pick up a flyer at your library for more details.
