policemanPolice in Loughborough are appealing for witnesses following a distraction burglary at a home on Nanpanton Road in Loughborough.

The incident happened at around 4:15pm on Bank Holiday Monday (August 27, 2007) when an 86-year-old woman answered a knock on her back door to three men asking for directions.

As the woman went to write them down the men barged past her into her home. One of them held her by the wrists while the other two searched the property. They took around 150 in cash before making off in a scruffy grey saloon.

The men are described as white, not particularly tall and aged between 17 and 22-years-old. All spoke with strong Irish accents.

The car is described as an old, scruffy dark grey, four-door saloon with blue cloth upholstery, similar in style to a Ford Escort.

Detective Constable Stuart Frobisher from Loughborough CID said: "This was obviously a very distressing incident for this woman. Fortunately she was not hurt during the burglary but that does not make this crime any less serious.

"All the victim was trying to do was be a helpful citizen for three men claiming to have lost their way. I hope that anyone out and about in Nanpantan Road last Monday evening will be able to help us find the people responsible.

"Do you remember seeing the dark grey saloon in the area either before or after the burglary? Did you also receive a visit from three men claiming to have lost their way?

"Any information, no matter how minor it may seem, could be extremely important to our investigation so please get in touch."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 440 Stuart Frobisher from North area CID on Leicester (0116) 222 2222
