METCALFE BAFFLED BY LACK OF DONINGTON QUALIFYING PACE
Posted on 08/09/07

Formula Renault UK Championship race-winner Jeremy Metcalfe knows he faces two very challenging races at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit tomorrow, Sunday, 9th September, after a difficult qualifying session at the Leicestershire venue earlier today.
The AKA Cobra driver, who away from the track studies Banking and Finance at Loughborough University, concluded this afternoons 20-minute session with a best time of 1m 29.845 seconds (161.2kph) to line up a somewhat disappointing 13th on the grid for round 17.
Although baffled by the lack of pace from his car, Jeremys superb consistency at least enabled him to qualify a little further up the order for round 18, his second quickest qualifying time of 1m 29.884 seconds placing him in the top 10 on the grid for race two.
With podium results highly unlikely tomorrow, even for a competitor of Jeremys ability, the BRDC Rising Star heads into the two World Series by Renault-supporting events aiming to simply make as much ground as possible in order to score enough points to maintain his top six placing in the driver standings.
"I really do feel Ive driven well today, I dont think I made any mistakes and the car felt good but it just wasnt fast enough for some reason, said Jeremy after qualifying, "Its baffling, we were really strong during the test on Wednesday but for some reason weve been unable to unlock the same pace today.
"From 13th and 10th on the grid its going to be very hard to take any good results from the weekend but Ill race as hard as possible and just see where that puts us. If we can fight for a top six in one of the races Id be pretty happy.
As the biggest meeting on the 2007 Formula Renault UK calendar, tomorrows races will see Jeremy driving his BillChaser-backed car in-front of an expected crowd of 100,000 spectators, by far Doningtons biggest car event of the year.
Rounds 17 and 18 of the Formula Renault UK Championship will take place tomorrow, Sunday, 9th September, at 09.00 and 15.55 respectively.
