The fire crews were there to raise money for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund, a national award wining charity that provides assistance to serving and retired fire fighters as well as their dependants and widows / widowers. Every year the charity helps about 11000 beneficiaries and all the income the charity receives is through fund raising efforts.

Saturday say Loughborough Fire Crews washing cars in the car park of B&Q to raise money. This was part of the charities National Car Wash fundraising, which has now an annual event and the largest singular money raising activity. Other fire stations nationally are carrying out similar events.  Last year they raised nationally just under £200,000 and it is hoped that this year the amount will be over the £200,000 mark.
