Too Much Bling, Give Us A Ring
Posted on 22/09/2007
P. Klein
People using crime to fund extravagant lifestyles have felt the long arm of the law. Leicestershire Police have recently been operating a campaign Too much bling, give us a ring to encourage anyone who they know is living a lavish lifestyle funded by criminal activites such as drug dealing, burglary etc.
In the latest swoop (Tuesday) officers have arrested a man in Loughborough. Prior to that two men in their twenties were arrested on the suspicion of possessing drugs and possible money laundering. Some drugs and associated paraphernalia were also recovered in the bust.
The campaign continues, with further arrests due in the near future. Under the law if the suspect has possessions which could have come from criminal activity the onus of proof is on them to prove that they were bought using legitimate means. So if they get done they will lose the fancy watches, gold jewellery, up market car and the items which got them caught anyway.
inLougborough says good on the police for making sure that those who are committing crimes get what they deserve and hopefully it will make people think twice about carrying out a criminal activity if they see others getting caught and banged to right. Its just a pity we still dont have public floggings in the market place as used to happen (in the good old days [?]).
