Distraction buglars target 82 year old
Posted on 23/09/2007
P. Klein
You have to be amongst the lowest of the low life to try to burgle from an 82 year old, but thats just what happened on Tuesday 18/9/07 in Gladstone Street in Hathern just up the Road from Loughborough.
It was about 4:15 in the afternoon then two men knocked on the door of a senior citizen home and said that they had to turn the water off. When they were inside the home one of them made a search of the property whilst the other distracted the defenceless victim. Fortunately the low life scum didnt find anything of value.
Both of the men are believed to have been in their thirties, white, and about 6ft tall. One of them had short fair hair, clean shaven and wearing a blue shirt. The other had short dark hair.
It is important that these people are brought to justice before they prey on other vulnerable members of our society by carrying out their heinous crimes. Luckily crimes such as this do not happen very often but even one is one too many.
In the area at the time there was also a red car which was being driven by a woman with blonde hair. It maybe that they were not involved but the police would like to speak to them to see if they saw anything relevant at the time. Police Constable Phil Martindale said "This has left the elderly victim particularly shaken. I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and saw anyone acting suspiciously, or saw a vehicle matching the description.
Under the present law it is illegal to use trickery to gain access to someones property, regardless if anything is taken. If you know anything about this crime then please contact the police who are appealing for witnesses.
