old hands holding a keyDo you want a say to what happens to the Huntingdon Care Home in Loughborough?

The future of this home has been in the spot light for some time. Originally back in March the County Council proposed to close or convert some care homes due to the decline in demand for the service. However this proposal was withdrawn over concerns of possible "distress and disruption that might be caused to residents and alternatives sought. After reconsideration Leicestershire County Council is now proposing to transfer several homes to an independent provider of care home services and the Huntingdon Care Home on Regent Street in Loughborough is one of them. LCC stresses that this transfer would not mean a reduction in standards at the home and that the new operator of the home, if transferred, would not only be registered but also subject to regular inspections, just as it is at the moment.

As part of the consultation process there will be a meeting tomorrow (27/9/07) at County Hall and another one on 10/10/07 at Leicester Racecourse. Both meetings will be at 18:30 and Huntingdon Court will be discussed along with other homes across the county that would be affected by the changes to how care for the elderly is organised.

If you wish to comment on the proposal you can either attend the meetings mentioned above or you can contact LCC in writing: Director of Adult Social Care and Health, Leicestershire County Council, County Hall, Glenfield, LE8 3RL
