Some of 25M could be invested in new roads, schools and public transport in and around Loughborough if a bid by the County Council is approved by the Government.

The Government invited areas to bid for new growth points which if successful would provide funding for infrastructure (e.g. roads, schools, health services and public transport) to ensure that new housing developments were well designed and had low environmental impact. Leicestershire County Council did this and has now been asked to submit more detailed proposals.

In order to maximise the chance of being successful the County put together a bid which included Loughborough (Charnwood) and Coalville together with three other locations throughout the county. In all more than 4,000 homes would be built. The money if awarded would be available from 2008 with the new homes being built from 2011.
