criminalLoughborough Burglars can no longer rely on students being easy picking for burglars or thieves in the area.

Loughborough Police in conjunction with the University have been saturation marking just under 5000 students property free of charge to the students. Forget the days of UV pens, this time it is a hitec method that permanently marks the item, using a glue like solution. There is absolutely no way this marking scheme can be rubbed off. Each item is marked with the glue in an inaccessible place, best of all, it fluoresces in Ultra Violet (UV) light and even if an amount smaller than the eye can see is still on the item it can be traced back down to the student whose property it is.

By marking items in this way it becomes far more harder to sell on goods. Many second hand goods shops now check items to see if theyve been marked. Furthermore if they dont check there maybe someone further down the line who will and the history of the item back to the person who stole it could be unravelled.

By saturation marking the message to would be criminals who prey on students the message is clear, its no longer an occupational hazard trying to shift goods possibly have been marked, it is almost guaranteed that they have been marked. So why bother?

In conjunction with the marking signs are being put up around the area to inform would be burglars that they really are wasting their time even thinking about crime.
