Election in Shepshed

voting

On Thursday the seat on the County Council for Shepshed was won by Labour candidate Kevin Parker.

For the first time the British National Party stood for election at this seat (although they did fight in the same area for the Charnwood Borough elections in April earlier this year). It appears however that Julia Green, the BNP candidate did not carry out any door to door canvassing, relying, allegedly, on mere leafleting. It could be concluded therefore that if she and her team had carried out a more structured campaign then it might have been possible to gain 10% of the votes that would have allowed her to win.

Human rights campaigner, Peter Tatchell, has often spoke of the BNPs homophobia and Islamaphobia, and looking at the figures and remember that whilst the BNP could have won with a further 10% of the vote, 80% of the electorate who turned up actually voted for another party. If you are Gay, Muslim, a refugee inLoughborough would like to hear your views on having so many people vote for the BNP means to you.
