crowd outside Loughborough Town Hall waiting to be let in for auditionsToday (Sunday 7th October 2007) saw crowds of people turn up at Loughborough Town Hall for Charnwoods Xmas factor competition, or at least the first round.

Queues started to form in Loughboroughs Market Place at 5:30 am in the morning, with first in line being Haylie, Samantha and Cloe from Loughborough for the auditions which started at 9am. Performers came in all guises, from singers, guitarists to dancers from all over Charnwood to try their luck to see if they were in with a chance.

Over 40 vaudeville acts ended up auditioning for the judges, drawn from the Borough Council, Oak 107 (who had done a brilliant job of advertising the contest during the week) and the Students Union. inLoughborough were privileged enough to witness the acts, and were also privy to some of the judges comments when discussing the performers they had just seen included:

  • It was hard not to laugh!
  • ... would be better than the booked acts.
  • Thats a yes!
  • ... and theyre hot.
  • Very professional.
  • Thats a definite.
  • Every girl in the room fancied him.
  • ... did you fancy him as well?
  • ... would blow the crowd away.
  • Theyre from ... so we have to give them a chance.
  • Dont call us, well call you.
  • No!
  • Lets get some of the bad ones back, itll be very funny.

In order that the judges dont get lynched the next time they are walking around Loughborough we wont reveal who said what about whom!

judging at the xmas factor in Loughborough Town HallWhilst the judges in no way could be likened to the fustian TV celebrity Simon Cowell, they did have the tough decision of who to put through to the next round. It was immediately apparent who was certainly worthy of further consideration at the next round and those that werent. However at the time of writing there was a large number of people that the judges wanted to put through because the standard was so high, but couldnt. The judges have until Tuesday when they are due to phone the lucky contestants.

The next round of the auditions will be held on Sunday 21st October 2007 when the lucky first heat winners will return to be put through their paces once more and grilled by the (kind hearted) judges. This round will decide who will be performing at various venues around Charnwood over the Christmas period and also at the Christmas Lights Switch on. At this event on the last Sunday in November the best three will be performing in front of an anticipated audience of 8,000 and a lucky act will be selected as a winner and receive 500 prize money.

InLoughborough already has a good idea of at least one of the acts that they expect to see in the top three, however that would be telling ...

As always, inLoughborough captured a large number of pictures from the Xmas Factor and these are shown in the galleries on this site.
