Road Safety Campaign
Posted on 10/10/2007
P. Klein
Maybe its something to do with young people thinking they are immortal and taking unnecessary risks on the road. Whilst young drivers under the age of 25 account for just 10% of road users, they are involved in 25% of all drivers killed or seriously injured in traffic accidents. There are various reasons for this including inexperience and driving faster than the road and weather conditions allow, failing to wear seat belts and there is a disproportionate amount of young drivers drinking a driving.
In order to cut down the needless loss of life road Safety Officers from nine authorities across the East Midlands have joined forces to create a young driver safety campaign No more lives wasted. The campaign involves some hard hitting posters, of which the above is one, to try to get drivers to realise that they are not only putting themselves at risk they are putting others lives in jeopardy.
The campaign has also created a website where people can find more information. Visitors can also pledge their support for the campaign (and get a chance to win an iPod) and read the true stories of people who made an avoidable mistake and live to regret it.
