Loughborough Railway Station Improvements
Posted on 23/10/07
P. Klein
Each day over 120 trains stop at Loughboroughs railway station making it the fourth busiest station in the East Midlands. Of the trains that stop, 60% of them occur at platforms which are the far side of the station over the footbridge.
Its inconvenient enough when you are in a hurry for a train to have to struggle up the steps and down the other side to get to platforms 2 or 3. It is even worse if you are struggling with luggage. However spare a thought for those who are disabled and how they cope.
Back in 2005 the Government announced funding to improve accessibility at stations throughout the country. Our local MP for Loughborough, Andy Reed, has since been vigorously lobbying to ensure that Loughborough received its fair share of the funding.
Starting in a couple of weeks building work will be started at the station with the work finishing in January of the new year. Andy told inLoughborough "naturally Im really pleased that real improvements for disabled place are to be in place shortly at Loughborough station.
It is also possible that these improvements will put plans on track and give momentum to possible platform lengthening making Loughborough a modern transport hub in the region.
