Fifty years in prison for armed gang

darren collinsYesterday (1st November 2007) saw the end of a four week trial in Leicester for three men charged with burglary, robbery, conspiring to rob, handling stolen goods, aggravated vehicle theft, assault and possession of prohibited weapons.

The three men, Darren Collins, David Roberston and Louis Smith will now serve a total of nearly 50 years imprisonment.

Twenty seven year old Darren Collins pleaded guilty to burglary and two counts of robbery and was found to be guilty of five robberies, two burglaries and one conspiracy to rob. One of these robberies occurred on 4th December  2005 when he carried out an armed robbery occurred at Tescos in Park Road, Loughborough, Leicestershire when more than £25,000 was taken from a security van that was there to replenish the ATM machine. For his crimes he was given an Indeterminate Sentence for the Public Protection of 24 years and will have to serve at least 12 years in prison before hes eligible to apply for parole.

David Robertson and Louis Smith was sentenced to 15 years and 8 years respectively.
