Loughborough University DesignWeek
Posted on 03/11/2007
P. Klein
Businesses of all sizes are being invited to set product design briefs for Loughborough Universitys Design and Technology students, as part of what has become the departments annual DesignWeek.
DesignWeek is a long established, highly successful enterprise, run every year near the beginning of February. Open to companies of any size be they small start-ups or SMEs to international giants, from any sector from manufacturing to retail. It doesnt matter about the location, the companies could be in Loughborough, the rest of Charnwood or even abroad.
The scheme enables students from the prestigious award winning department to work on real life design briefs. This benefits both the student and the companies involved. The list of organisations that have become involved and previously worked with the University during DesignWeek include Amcor Flexibles, Boots, BBC Audiobooks, Diageo, Glow-Worm, HBC Engineering, Huntleigh Healthcare, Morphy Richards, PAL International, Progressive Sports Technologies and Schott Fibre Optics. Given that Loughboroughs students are among the most creative and inventive in the country it is hardly surprising to see the involvement of some of these major businesses.
Paul Wormald, DesignWeek coordinator said: Companies are able to access exceptional design work from students on one of the best product design courses in the country. It costs the company absolutely nothing and once DesignWeek is finished they can negotiate the projects exploitation with the University if they want.
