5th November 2007

attentive pupils at Limehurst High School in LoughboroughThis week Leicestershire County Council Chairman Mike Jones and wife Marj Jones is visiting schools in Loughborough, the surrounding areas of Charnwood and the rest of Leicestershire.

This mornings visit (5th November 2007) was to Limehurst High School. The school on Bridge Street in Loughborough caters for about 400 students between the age of 11 & 14.

Showing Mike and Marj round the school today was Head Teacher Steve Coneron who was obviously very proud of the school. Steve has good reason to take such pride as the school has recently received high praise from OfSTED and was the first school in Leicestershire to be judged outstanding in all areas. In certain specific areas such as maths the school is rated in the top 1% nationally for pupil progress.

Mike and Marj had the opportunity to meet numerous classes and talk with both the pupils and the staff. However they are no strangers to the school as their grandchildren were students at the school until recently. They were obviously impressed by not only the facilities of the school but also the enthusiasm of the staff and pupils.

Today they will be visiting other schools in the area including The Garendon High School and De Lisle Catholic School. Visits to Rawlins Community College, Humphrey Perkins High School, Maplewell Hall School and Castle Donington Community College will occur later in the week.
