6th November 2007
CHARNWOOD Community Safety Partnership held a special planning event on Thursday (1 November) to look at Charnwoods Night Time Economy and planning for the future.
The event ran by the Home Office included Charnwood Borough Council, Leicestershire Police, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Turning Point and included various other connected agencies linked to night time issues.
The event was held at the Quality Hotel between 9am and 12.30pm.
Cllr David Snartt, Lead Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said: "The workshop will now enable us to develop a tailor approach for a prosperous and safe night time economy for Loughborough town centre, which will also include visioning on what the town will develop into over the next few years.
Allison Fadesco, from Charnwood Borough Councils Community Safety Team, added: "We work with our partners to provide an increasing variety of tactics to ensure a safe and enjoyable night time economy in Loughborough. This includes funding Street Marshalls, increasing CCTV coverage and working to promote sensible drinking.
The new strategy is to be funded through the tackling violent crime programme and will provide clear actions and ownership by the various connected agencies.
Inspector Mark Cuddihy, Commander of Loughborough local policing unit said; "Some good ideas were discussed at the meeting and I am in favour of working together to resolve issues linked to the night time economy of the town."
There will be a further meeting on Friday, 30 November to progress the work from the event.
Chair of the Loughborough Town Centre Partnership, Adrian McInnes, added: "The night time economy is such a vital part of the prosperity of the Town Centre and this event was a great opportunity to plan to ensure it will develop in the future for the benefit of all of our customers and businesses alike.
