Prestige Parking Limited based at East Midlands Airport and one of its Directors have today pleaded guilty to a number of charges for not providing indoor secure car parking as advertised and for falsely displaying the "Park Mark safer parking logo.
Officers with the Trading Standards Service carried out an investigation after receiving complaints from Leicestershire Constabulary. Consumers alleged that they had paid extra to have their vehicles parked at an indoor secure compound facility, when in fact many vehicles were being parked at the airports outdoor car parks and at other sites surrounding the airport. They were also displaying the nationally recognised "Park Mark logo when they had lost their right to do so.
The investigation included an undercover operation to test the claims made by the company. This involved 3 vehicles being booked for parking at the facility. Indoor parking was requested on each occasion, but was only provided once.
Loughborough Magistrates Court found Prestige Parking Limited and Kawaljeet Singh Mangat, a Director of the Company, guilty of eight charges under the Trade Descriptions Act 1968. They were fined a total of £20,000, and ordered to pay costs of £2,239.02
David Bull, Head of the Trading Standards Service said, "It is important that consumers receive the services that they have paid for and they should not be misled by false statements. The Trading Standards Service protects consumers and ensures fair play between businesses. I would urge consumers to report any claims they believe to be false by calling Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
