On Tuesday (13th November 2007), Chairman of Leicestershire County Council and County Councillor for Loughborough East, Mike Jones visited the library on Granby Street with his wife Marj to join in with the Wriggly Readers Group.
The Wriggly Reader sessions at Loughborough library consist of rhymes and stories for babies and toddlers. They are currently held twice a week although this will soon be extended to session on a Sunday. The sessions are aimed at babies aged 0-4 and their parents/carers. They are run by library staff and typically last about half an hour. They are warm, fun sessions where children can join in with songs and stories in a comfortable environment.
The aim is to encourage youngsters to develop a love of books from an early age. Book sharing is an enjoyable and key part of a childs growth and is also fantastic for bonding. Wriggly Reader sessions are deliberately friendly and informal to give families the chance to meet and make new friends. Parents can make use of books from the wide choice of resources libraries have for young children.
