CHARNWOOD Gold Card holders are being asked to make sure they are in the frame for the newnational travelconcession when the scheme begins in April (2008).

A letter has been sent to the23,000 Gold Card holders in the Boroughasking then to senda passport picture to Charnwood Borough Council by the end of the month (November) to ensure they will receive their new travel passes in time.

The new scheme, whichprovides freetravel in England,on public transport buses, for those over 60-years-old or disabledand replaces the existing free County-wide travel offered.

Cllr Hilary Fryer, Cabinet Lead, said: "We have received about 9,000 photographs so far and we want to remind people that the new scheme requires a card which is nationally identifiable with a photograph. So far werereceiving around 1,500 cards a week but weneed all Charnwoods Gold Card users tosend their photographs as soon as possible to ensure they are able to use thescheme from the first day.

"I would like to add to this message a huge thank you to those who have already sent their photographs. These people dont need to do anything further.

Pass holders are asked to ensure they have carefully read the letter. A telephone call to Charnwood Borough Council is not always necessary as all the information should be in the letter.
