Loughborough Christmas Lights Switch On Tomorrow (Sunday 24th November 2007) sees the urban landscape of Loughborough town centre being transformed for the festive period as the Christmas Lights are switched on to an anticipated crowd of 8,000 people.

However the seasons festivities will be starting earlier in the day with bands duets, solo artists and and dance acts performing in the Market Place from 1pm.

The afternoon will be presented by Oak 107s Gavin Samways and Dave James. Performing on stage will be Critical Elements, Brown Sugar, Northern Quarter, New Gold, Three Legged Dog, Collette, Slipstream, Charlie Jones, Hind Leys Community College with High School Musical and finally Hard Suction.

Then at 4pm the exalted furry fox, Basil Brush, will join Gavin to start the Charnwood has Christmas Talent finals. Back on the Sunday 7th October 2007 about a 100 people turned up at a talent contest to get the chance to perform in the finals this coming weekend and win a prize of 500. Even after the second round contest the calibre of contestants was so high that it was impossible to select just three for the final contest. Consequently the first part of the final is a wild card competition where the four runners up will have a chance to go forward to the final. The four runners up who will be competing against each other are Lloyd Vitols, Olivia Ellis Thorne, the Motion Dance Company and Shaena Walsh Bell performing Angels by Robbie Williams, All I Want for Christmas by Mariah Carey, Step Into Christmas and Beauty and The Beast " Song As Old As Time respectively. The judges and audience will then decide who go through to the final.

The Charnwood has Xmas Talent final will then proceed with the best three from the previous two rounds of the competition appearing on stage. Kieran and Astin Sutcliffe will be first performing Fairytale of New York by The Pogues. Christian Bell Young then takes the stage with his acoustic guitar to perform Faith by George Michael. Christian will be followed by Laura Norton performing Santa Baby. The judges will then make their decision as to who has won and announce their decision. The crowd will then see all the performers taking the stage to perform Do They Know Its Christmas with the winner taking the centre mic.

Then at approximately 5pm the countdown to the Christmas Lights Switch On and Basil in the company of the Mayor and Mayoress will press the switch and Loughborough town centre will be illuminated with decorations in winter colours. After the lights are switched on Hathern Brass Band will perform for the gathered crowd until approximately 5:30pm.

Leader from Charnwood Borough Council, Cllr Richard Shepherd, said: "This year weve really invested a lot into the whole Christmas programme and were all very much looking forward to the festivities. "The talent weve found through the Charnwoods Got Xmas Talent competition will be showcased throughout the four key dates and were planning on holding a special gala performance and presentation evening at the Loughborough Town Hall in January, so well publicise details in the near future. Thank you to all those involved, especially the Xmas Talent!
