Leicestershire Constabulary is continuing to disrupt criminal activity with the Follow that Van operation to decrease robberies from cash in transit vans in the run up to Christmas when a high volume of cash is being transported to places such ATMs.

Patrolling officers will tag along behind cash in transit vans to ensure cash reaches its destination safely.

Earlier this month Leicestershire Constabulary secured a successful conviction of three men who were sentenced to a total of nearly fifty years imprisonment after a series of cash-in-transit armed robberies throughout the UK, including a robbery from Tescos in Loughborough.

Police Constable Brian Voss, the Forces crime reduction officer said: "Follow that van is a well-known and effective preventative technique and whenever possible officers will continue to provide reassurance patrols and provide a visible presence to deter would be robbers.

"The recent of three men for a series of cash in transit robberies sends out a clear message to criminals that they are not welcome in our county.  We will be sharing intelligence with colleagues from partner forces in the region to combat this type of crime.

"We deplore incidents of armed robbery and are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of security staff, the public and police officers to make Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland a safe place to live, work and visit."
