Andy Reed, Loughboroughs MP, has asked the Government for progress on the resumption of fuel supplies to Gaza and the impact such a blockage could have on the people living there. He believes the Government needs to be doing all it can to ensure that the humanitarian situation in Gaza does not deteriorate any more. Andy in his questions focus on the fuel cuts imposed by Israel which has roughly reduced fuel to Gaza by about 40% and on the efforts of the Government to work towards restoring full supplies and ensuring humanitarian operations are not affected by fuel cuts.

Raed Rajab, the assistant manager of Palestinian General Petroleum Corporation, said that Israel has reduced vital fuel supplies to one quarter of normal levels since Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip on June 14.

The Israeli Supreme Court ruled last week that the Israeli state could limit fuel provisions to the Hamas-ruled coastal territory to pressurize Palestinian militant factions to end firing rockets on Jewish communities, but has for the time being blocked a comparable plan to cut electricity supply requesting the state to present a detailed plan.

Reed after his recent trip to the region is deeply concerned with the deteriorating situation and calls on the Government to continue its dialogue with Israel about resuming fuel supplies to stop a humanitarian disaster developing.

Loughboroughs MP said

"We have to keep this situation in the Governments focus and ensure that we continue do all we can to help the people in Gaza receive humanitarian aid and help.

I know many people are concerned about the situation and I want to make sure this issue receives proper attention by the Government.
