Modern Apprenticeships
Posted on 03/12/2007
P. Klein
Loughborough MP Andy Reed backs modern apprenticeships and offers his support for the government schemes that are encouraging more people to take up apprenticeships. The number of people taking apprenticeships has risen dramatically under the Labour government and the Government is committed to continuing to support apprenticeships with Andy fully supporting it. He has worked to raise the profile of apprenticeships and vocational training and is backing them as a good option for young people.
In Leicestershire Andy is delighted to see a 94% rise in the number of people doing apprenticeships over the last year and he fully supports and hopes for more growth over the next year and will be working in the Loughborough area to encourage more people to take them up. The availability and access to apprenticeships has been made easier and more people are being offered the opportunity to take up these apprenticeships. The Government is making available funds of over £800 million to help increase the number of people taking apprenticeships and this is set to increase over the comings year.
Reed says: "Looking at the figures for the Leicestershire area I am happy to see such huge rise in numbers. I have worked over the last year to raise awareness of apprenticeships as an option for young people. I believe apprenticeships are a great way of getting more young people into work and giving them useful skills.
The figure is in stark contrast to the Tory governments decline of industry and mass unemployment. I fully support the moves taken by the government to press on with raising the number of people involved with apprenticeships.
