Loughborough MP Andy Reed last week voiced his dismay over the plans to sell of Huntingdon Court care home in Loughborough.

The County council is due to discuss the matter further today (5th december 2007) and Andy has given his backing to Labour County Councillors who are trying to block the sale of Huntingdon Court in Loughborough to the private sector. Andy Reed has told the Labour group it has full support for their amendment at the County Council meeting tomorrow (Wednesday 5th December) and has written to the County Council to urge them to think again.

"In my experience the recent care homes that have transferred to the private sector have seen a deterioration in the level of service. The levels of care and investment in the buildings is not just good enough. The staff all try their hardest but they struggle with fewer staff and on lower wages. Changing ownership also unsettles the residents. I would urge the Loughborough based Tories at County Hall to put our Loughborough residents first"
