French Market Comes to Loughborough
Posted on 11/12/2007
P. Klein
THIS FRIDAY (14 December 2007) will see Loughboroughs Market Place transformed into a Christmas wonderland as the biggest festive and French market arrives in town, welcomed by local stars on stage.
The Christmas, craft and French market will run along side the bric-a-brac market from 8am until 8pm and will see the town centre packed with a whole host of exciting Christmas goodies and seasonal produce from local producers to the continent.
There will be a live stage show from 11am until 2pm and then between 3pm and 6pm the Charnwood’s Got Xmas Talent local stars will be taking to the stage, with the Mayor’s Christmas Carol Concert from 6pm.
The ‘Charnwood’s Got Xmas Talent’ initiative has been organised by Charnwood Borough Council, in association with the Loughborough Town Centre Partnership. Auditions were held in October, and a shortlist of the top 20 acts have performed across the Christmas programme, with Shaena Walsh-Bell winning at the finals held at the Christmas Lights Switch On on 25 November.
Leader from Charnwood Borough Council, Cllr Richard Shepherd, said: “Friday will be the final time the acts will perform in 2007 but we will be holding a special gala evening performance in the New Year to celebrate the amazing talent we have uncovered.
“Come along this Friday and enjoy Loughborough’s usual shopping offer with this annual fantastic festive treat; what better way to do your Christmas shopping than with the sounds, sights and smells of the season?
“This year we’ve really invested a lot into the whole Christmas programme and we’ve seen unprecedented numbers of visitors to the town because of it: 10,000 for the lights switch on with Basil Brush!”
