Charnwood Borough Council is bringing some festive cheer to car parking!

This year, the Borough Council, will be offering reduced car parking rates at Beehive Lane car park from Wednesday, 17 December. Not forgetting the free parking after 6pm on Wednesday for last minute late night shopping.

The reduced prices will run until Christmas Day and are as follows:

Up to 1 hour 20p

Up to 2 hours 50p

Up to 3 hours 1.50

Up to 4 hours 2.10

Up to 5 hours 3.00

Daily Charge 5.70

6pm Midnight 50p

Cabinet Lead for the Environment, Cllr Mike Preston, said: We wanted to reduce the car parking rates to encourage more people to come into the town centre and with so many events programmed were hoping that Loughborough will continue to be busy and prosperous.

Works for the changes from Pay on Exit to Pay on Foot at Beehive Lane have already started but due to technical problems with the supplier it will not be possible to have the new system installed and operational before the New Year.

Cllr Preston added: Pay on Foot will allow shoppers to pay after they have completed their activities rather than deciding in advance how long they will need for shopping. This will mean an end to parking penalties for overstaying at Beehive Lane car park. We only apologise on behalf of our suppliers that were not able to have the system in place sooner.

The full conversion of the car park is now expected to be in place by the beginning of February.
