The rocks of Charnwood Forest are amongst the oldest in England and are famous throughout the world. Visitors to Charnwood Museum on Saturday 19th January will have an opportunity to find out more about these exciting rocks in a special showing of a new DVD that explores the geology of Charnwood.

The DVD has been produced by British Geological Survey with support from local quarry companies under the Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund.  Much of the material was filmed on location at geological sites around Charnwood.

This special viewing at Charnwood Museum has been organised in association with the British Geological Survey and with the publishers of the popular magazine Down to Earth. Loughborough-born geologist, Chris Darmon, who will introduce the DVD to visitors, said: “I’m delighted that the people of Charnwood have an opportunity to see this excellent DVD at Charnwood Museum. As someone who was first introduced to geology through the rocks of

Charnwood, it’s great to see this modern interpretation.”

The DVD will be shown at Charnwood Museum, Granby Street, Loughborough this Saturday, January 19th at 10.30am. Admission to the showing is free and all are welcome.

The showing will be followed by a short field trip to the Shephed area led by Chris Darmon to look at the local rocks. There is a £5.00 charge for the fieldtrip, please contact Chris Darmon on 0114 2455746 for further details.

Charnwood Museum is in Queens Park in the centre of Loughborough and is open from 10am – 4.30pm Monday to Saturday and 1pm-4pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays. Admission is Free.

Charnwood Museum is run as a partnership between Leicestershire County Council and Charnwood Borough Council.
